The Professional Development Committee of the MIT Club of Boston wants to help local alums and MIT affiliates meet their career-related needs. If you have any questions about the Committee, please contact Shiv Reddy (shivreddy. at. alum.mit.edu).

Current Plans -- and a Request for Input

The content of the programs hosted by the Professional Development Committee focus on both self-assessment tools to holistically review careers to determine which jobs would be most rewarding for individuals, and basic job search skills such as networking, marketing oneself, and performing well at interviews. Specific topics being given consideration include:

  • how to perform a self-assessment
  • how to achieve career satisfaction
  • how to avoid job burn-out
  • how to know when to move on to a new position
  • the aspects of launching a dramatic career change into a new profession

For time to time, our Committee will also host workshops that focus on some of the more basic skills, such as, writing a cover letter and an effective resume.  Please also check out ICAN services available from the Career Services Office at MIT.

To create successful programs, we need your input! You may e-mail Shiv Reddy at the e-mail address provided above.  Let us know know what formats you prefer, what career topics are important to you, and your thoughts about them. Also, we can always use volunteers and new committee members to help sponsor a session or two (about two hours of work).
