AMITA Women in Biotech: Cryoimaging for Disease Biomarkers (and the Venture to Make It Happen)
Thursday, November 12 2009, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
by Nancy Goldberg '83Hits : 130

The Women in Biotech series continues on Thursday, November 12, with Dr. Nazneen Aziz, founder of Vitrimark. She will present her talk on "Cryoimaging of biological fluids for discovery of structural biomarkers", and what it's like to start a new biotech company.

Innovation and entrepreneurship is at work again, Dr. Aziz’s new venture will leverage the her unique nanoscale cryoimaging expertise that of her co-founder Dr. Bose to identify structural biomarkers for the early detection of disease. Cryoimaging of biological fluids has the potential to dramatically drop the drug development cost associated with biomarker discovery and validation.  Dr. Aziz will discuss the technology employed by Vitrimark as well as her experience in starting up this company.

Dr. Nazneen Aziz is a former VP of Research at Interleukin Genetics, VP of External Research at Point Therapeutics, Director of Translational Research at the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research, and Group Leader of the Gene Expression Division at Zycos.  She has also been an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Aziz obtained her B.A. from Wellesley College, and both her Masters and Ph.D. from M.I.T. She did her post-doctoral fellowships at Harvard University and the Whitehead Institute.
