| What: Sneak preview of new PBS show "Design Squad" and a celebration of project-based learning When: Tuesday, February 20, 5:30 - 7:00 PM Where: Stata Student Street and Room 32-123 Who: MIT community, their families and friends The MIT community and their children are invited to a fun and educational event on Tuesday 20 February from 5:30 to 7PM in the Stata Center. The event will include a sneak preview of DESIGN SQUAD -- a new children's television show produced by WGBH and featuring kids engaged in designing and building machines. The progam has many strong connections to MIT -- it was filmed on campus, features additional MIT students in episodes, is co- hosted by an MIT graduate student (Nathan Ball, winner of this year's $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize), and has two MIT faculty serving as advisors. For more about the show -- including a preview clip -- go to http://pbskidsgo.org/designsquad. Join us in celebrating both MIT's involvement in this new show and project-based learning in general. The stars of the show will be present to answer questions. MIT's design/build clubs, such as the Formula Racing Team and the Solar Car Club, will host tables to show the wonderful machines they have designed, built, and raced. The first 100 children aged 7 to 13 will receive a free kit with all the materials needed to design and build their own rubber band powered car. Free popcorn and lemonade for all. Please come and celebrate the amazing things young people can do when they are inspired to design! |
